Alphonse is a big boy with an even bigger heart. This sweet, affectionate gentleman is the definition of a “lover boy.” He adores being near his people and is happiest snoozing on his favorite bed or rug right beside you. He’s also wonderfully trustworthy in the home - non-destructive, calm when left alone, and perfectly content outside of the crate.
Alphonse knows his basic commands and is a smart, eager-to-please dog who loves to learn. He would truly thrive with an adopter willing to continue building his leash skills. He can get excited and pull at times, and he’s still learning that he doesn’t need to greet every dog on a walk. With patience and positive reinforcement, he’ll be a dream.
He’s been friendly with dogs of all sizes and loves to play. He is untested with cats. He’s also been around young children and remains his sweet, gentle self. His foster adores him and describes him as having “not a single bad bone in his body.” Due to his laid back demeanour Alphonse would likely do well with kids, however dog-savvy kids who will understand and respect his need for space if he is startled or scared would be best.
Because Alphonse can be startled by quick or unexpected movements, a calm home with gentle humans with a soft approach would be ideal. He would also love a fenced yard where he can stretch his legs, run around, and enjoy having space to explore.
