Meet Tyson!
From Nervous, shut down shelter pup…to a Loving Companion
Tyson is an almost 1-year-old male German Shepherd, weighing approximately 72 lbs of pure love and energy. His journey hasn’t been easy. Tyson was abandoned and left in a shelter, where he struggled to feel safe. The shelter described him as anxious, fearful, and nervous; he didn’t seem comfortable in the kennels and clearly wasn’t thriving in that environment. He hadn’t yet learned how to enjoy toys or play, and life felt overwhelming. Thankfully, one of our amazing fosters said yes to opening their home and quickly stepped in to bring him into a safe, loving foster home, and the transformation has been remarkable.
Today, Tyson is thriving. He’s a true companion who adores his people, following them everywhere and eager to be involved in family life. He has blossomed into a confident, playful, and affectionate young dog. He’s a huge fan of snuggles and will happily curl up next to you, his foster describes him as the best snuggler ever.
Tyson is potty trained (though not crate trained) and knows basic commands. He enjoys daily walks and has excellent leash manners. Playtime is a highlight of his day - he loves his toys, interactive games, running around in the snow with the children in his home and gentle, playful mouthing with people who engage with him. He’s been gentle and respectful around children and adults, and a home with dog-savvy kids would be ideal.
Tyson currently lives with another dog and has shown he is respectful and follows the lead of his canine companion. He would do wonderfully with another confident dog but can also thrive as an only dog. He has not yet been tested with cats.
One of Tyson’s standout qualities is his amazing temperament with new people… he’s calm, friendly, and not a jumper. He strikes the perfect balance between playful energy and devoted companionship. He thrives when included in family life and enjoys being close to his humans.
Tyson’s ideal home would be one where he is fully included as a family member. A yard to run circles in and a family willing to help him burn off his puppy energy would make him happiest. While another dog would be his greatest wish, he can adapt to a home without one as long as he gets plenty of attention, play, and engagement.
