Meet Yeondu…
Yeondu is a sweet, gentle girl who is still learning that the world around her is a safe place. She can be nervous in new situations and around new people, but once she feels comfortable, her loving personality really shines. She LOVES attention and will happily paw at you for pets!
Yeondu is potty trained and is currently working on becoming fully crate trained. She goes into her crate at bedtime and when her foster family leaves the house. She isn’t a huge fan of going into the crate and may need some encouragement, but once she is in, she settles quietly. She has been left alone for hours during the workday and does well. She has no separation anxiety and is continuing to build her confidence with being crated during the day.
Yeondu is cat friendly and generally ignores other dogs. She can be nervous when passing dogs on walks, but she is not reactive. She has a lower energy level and isn’t particularly toy motivated. She does, however, LOVE going for walks and being outdoors. She pulls slightly on leash, but nothing excessive, and walks are one of her favourite parts of the day.
She has not yet lived with children in her foster home, but she has met young children in Korea and was respectful and did well around them.
Yeondu may bark when someone comes to the door or when a new person enters the home. Meeting new people can be intimidating for her, and she does best with calm, patient, dog-savvy people who understand that she needs a little time to warm up. Once she settles, she is much more comfortable.
She is also still learning to manage her excitement and nerves. When she becomes particularly excited or scared, she may have a little submissive/excitement pee. Her foster family is working on this with patience and positive reinforcement, and we expect this to improve as her confidence grows.
Car rides are another area she is working on. She shakes a little in the car and isn’t the biggest fan of travelling yet, but with time and gentle desensitization, we believe she will become more comfortable.
Yeondu’s ideal home:
Yeondu would thrive with a patient, calm and structured home that will give her the time she needs to adjust to life in Canada. A quiet environment would be ideal while she continues building her confidence.
She can do well in either an apartment or a house, although hallways, unfamiliar people and unexpected noises can make her nervous. Her future family should be committed to giving her regular walks, because despite how scary the world can sometimes feel, exploring outdoors is one of Yeondu’s favourite things.
Yeondu doesn’t need someone to “fix” her. She needs someone willing to give her time, routine, patience and reassurance while she learns that she is safe. With the right person by her side, we can’t wait to see the confident, affectionate girl we know is waiting to come out.
