Meet Kai!
Kai is a sweet, gentle 3-year-old Spitz × Jindo mix who is looking for a patient and loving forever home where he can feel safe, secure, and truly part of the family. At approximately 20 lbs, Kai is a wonderful size and has a calm, lower-energy personality. Kai is a shy and easily spooked boy, especially when he encounters something new or unfamiliar. But don’t let his initial timidness fool you - once he feels safe, he warms up quickly. He absolutely loves being pet and enjoys being close to his people.
Kai LOVES being outdoors! One of his favourite things is simply spending time outside. He enjoys being in the fresh air so much that sometimes he needs a little convincing that it’s time to come back inside! Because of this, we think Kai would be especially happy in a home with a securely fenced yard where he can safely enjoy plenty of outdoor time. On walks, Kai is very good on leash and enjoys his walks. He doesn’t need an extremely active lifestyle and would be happy with a peaceful routine that includes some outdoor time and leisurely walks.
His ideal home - Kai is quite adaptable and could potentially thrive in a house or condo with a single person, couple, or family, with or without children. What matters most to him is having patient people who will give him time to adjust and build confidence. Because Kai loves companionship, he would ideally have someone home much of the time. He truly enjoys being around people and being part of the household.
Kai does well with small to medium-sized, calm dogs. He is most comfortable around dogs who are gentle and respectful of his space. Large, very energetic, jumpy, or overly excitable dogs can make him nervous or scared. For that reason, Kai would likely be happiest as the only dog or with a calm, gentle canine companion who won’t overwhelm him.
Kai's ideal home is a peaceful home. A secure yard. Someone patient enough to let him take things at his own pace. And most importantly, people who will let him discover that the world is a safe place. Kai isn’t the dog who will necessarily charge up to you the moment you meet. But give him a little time, a few gentle pets, and some reassurance, and you’ll see that sweet personality start to shine. For the right person, Kai will be a wonderful companion, one who will happily spend his days by your side, enjoying the simple things and finally knowing what it feels like to be home.
Backstory: Kai was rescued from the Chilgok shelter in Korea.
