I'm ready for my new family!

Hi! My Name Is Rex

I'm Available

Rex - our golden year boy - is ready to soak up all the love someone has to offer him.

Rex is the sweetest senior you will ever meet. He loves affection and snuggles, and every person he meets. He has even had the opportunity to accompany his foster mom to her work and was a model employee for the day. This ol’ fella is low energy, but does enjoy a good 15 minute walk. On his walks, Rex will pull towards scents that catch his attention, but as his foster so beautifully put it “as a Senior he should get to smell all the flowers if he wants too”. Rex also loves playing in his backyard with his favourite ball. Rex is currently fostered with another submissive female dog, and if there is another dog in the home, they will also have to have a similar submissive temperament. As Rex came to the rescue as a senior, he was not altered, and due to his age, neutering was not recommended.

As a senior, Rex does have some symptoms of old age, such as slight hearing loss. This hearing loss does mean that he is not as receptive to oral commands, but his foster has been able to re-direct him and engage with him in other ways. The hearing loss also means that he is very stimulated by his sense of smell, and when outdoors, if he catches a scent he can be vocal to alert to it. Rex is more vocal outdoors than indoors, and although he will be sad when you leave the home, he does eventually settle and has proven to do fantastic without a crate. Due to this - a home with a fully fenced in yard would be ideal for Rex.

His foster believes the ideal home would be anywhere that Rex can just hang out, soak up some love, and have a few good places to sleep. He loves to be outside and loves to hang out and soak up the sun. Another dog in the house would be great but not a deal breaker. Since he is not fixed, perhaps the other dog should not also be an alpha. A home where he is not left alone too much as he loves to know people are there. He gets up and follows his humans if they leave the room for more than a minute.

As per his foster: Rex is the absolute sweetest senior guy around. He loves everyone he meets, he loves sleeping and he is just happy to be with his people.

As he is entering his golden years, he’s just beginning to show some mild kidney changes, which are being well managed with daily supplements.

Senior dogs have much love left to give - they just need someone willing to see it. At 12 years old, Rex may not be a puppy anymore, but he still has a heart of loyalty, gentleness, and gratitude for every kind touch. Adopting a senior means giving them the best chapter of their life - and in return you’ll gain a best friend who will cherish you every single day.
